ncb busts india–myanmar transnational drug syndicate; third myanmar kingpin arrested in 2026

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) dismantled an India–Myanmar transnational drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest of its principal kingpin, Nengzatuan (Tuanpi), a resident of Haichin, Chin State, Myanmar. He was apprehended from Churachandpur, Manipur.

Tuanpi, a resident of Haichin in Myanmar’s Chin State, was apprehended from Churachandpur, Manipur, following months of intelligence gathering, technical surveillance, and coordinated interstate operations.

According to NCB officials, Tuanpi managed a widespread network supplying methamphetamine and heroin sourced from Myanmar into India. The illegal consignments were routed through Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, and Tripura before being distributed across various parts of India and Bangladesh.

Tuanpi is named as a primary accused in three NCB cases involving the seizure of 28.22 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 1.278 kg of heroin, together valued at over ₹25 crore. Officials added that he is also linked to seven other cases registered by the Churachandpur Police, Singngat Police, and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

Overall, the syndicate’s operations have been tied to drug seizures and proceeds of crime collectively valued at over ₹53 crore.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate relied on a multi-tiered infrastructure including international suppliers, cross-border couriers, local facilitators, and financial handlers.

Over recent months, intelligence-led operations have led to the arrest of several key operatives in Manipur and Assam, including:

  • Abdullah Ahmed (Silchar, Assam) – Principal coordinator and receiver for consignments entering Assam.
  • Lalthlamuong Pulamte (Churachandpur, Manipur)
  • Nengultinkhum Hrangngul (Pherzawl, Manipur)
  • Paominlen Munlo (Churachandpur, Manipur) – Suspected receiver in a major methamphetamine seizure.

Third Major Arrest This Year

Tuanpi is the third Myanmar-based drug kingpin arrested by the agency in 2026, following the earlier arrests of Lalhmingsanga in March 2026 and Thancintuang alias Chintuang alias Tluanga in May 2026.

The NCB stated that financial investigations are currently underway to trace additional proceeds of crime, assets, and remaining members of the network.
