Bertha, the second named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, strengthened from a tropical depression on July 20. By Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said the storm had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and was located about 90 miles south-southwest of Panama City, Florida, and about 125 miles southeast of Mobile, Alabama. The storm was moving northwest at 5 mph and is expected to gradually weaken from Wednesday through Friday.
