Sonam Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike on June 28, 2026, in solidarity with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a youth-led movement protesting recurring exam paper leaks, including the NEET controversy, and rising unemployment. He has said he will end his fast only if the Centre accepts responsibility for the leaks, MPs assure the issue will be raised during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, and restrictions on his speech and movement are lifted. After more than 20 days without food, Wangchuk reportedly lost over 9 kilograms and suffered severe dehydration and muscle breakdown.
