Study Finds Hidden Space Debris Around Earth: Here Is Why It Could Be A Big Problem

The discovery is particularly important because geostationary orbit, located about 36,000 kilometres above Earth, allows satellites to remain fixed over the same point on the planet. This makes it one of the most valuable orbital regions for television broadcasts, internet services, weather monitoring and Earth observation. However, the research suggests this orbital corridor may contain far more debris than scientists had estimated.
