The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is likely to begin a demolition drive against alleged illegal commercial establishments operating on government land in Sector 42 along Golf Course Road after completing the final stage of land ownership verification.
According to officials, GMDA has sought fresh confirmation from the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to ensure there are no legal hurdles before taking enforcement action. Show-cause notices and restoration orders have already been issued to the alleged encroachers.
The proposed action follows complaints from a citizens’ body, which alleged that several unauthorised businesses, including eateries, meat shops, courier centres, medical stores and building material outlets, have been operating on government land for years, causing traffic congestion and public safety concerns.
Once the land ownership is confirmed, GMDA said demolition and removal of the illegal structures will be carried out as per the prescribed rules.
