Emergency crews have been dispatched to the Greenwood Park Mall area in Indiana following multiple reports of fire alarms sounding at several nearby restaurants.

According to Trafalgar Fire Department, numerous calls were received reporting active fire alarms in businesses near the mall.

Trafalgar Engine 62 is en route to investigate what has been reported as a possible structure fire.

The cause of the alarms has not yet been confirmed, and emergency crews are assessing the situation.

A power surge was reported in the area of U.S. 31, Fry Road and County Line Road, but businesses and residents should soon have power back, said Brad Coy, assistant chief and public information officer for the Greenwood Fire Department.

The department confirmed that it has received at least 12 calls since the surge regarding automatic fire alarms going off or residents reporting they smell or see smoke. Coy said Duke Energy is enroute to help and fire departments from Indianapolis to Franklin are assisting with service calls. When the Daily Journal spoke with Coy around 5:30 p.m., he said a Greenwood Park Mall security personnel told him that power is back inside the mall and are preparing to open the mall again to the public. Despite many social media posts of residents claiming there was a fire at the mall, Coy said no fires have been reported and all calls they have received at this time have been serviced.
