A vegetation fire burning in the east foothills of San Jose sent flames lighting up the skyline above Alum Rock Park on Thursday evening, prompting a large emergency response as firefighters worked to stop the blaze from spreading through dry hillside vegetation. The fire, named the Sierra Fire, broke out near Boccardo Peak in the 5300 block of Sierra Road.
