Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday received a phone call from Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, a day after 12 Indians were killed in a gas explosion in Ras Laffan Industrial City. During the call, PM Modi thanked Amir of Qatar for extending his condolences on the loss of Indian lives in the tragic accident.

Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “I thank His Highness the Amir of Qatar for his phone call and condolences on the loss of lives of Indian nationals in the tragic accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar. We both share the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

“India and Qatar remain steadfast in their commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens and stand in solidarity with each other,” he added.

12 Indians Among 13 Killed in Qatar

12 Indians were among 13 killed after a massive explosion rocked the Ras Laffan Industrial City – refinery – in Qatar on late Sunday night. The explosion at the Barzan local gas supply facility at Ras Laffan Industrial City injured 66 people, including Indians.

Reacting on the incident, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said that the Indian government is in touch with the local authorities in Qatar for the identification of the mortal remains, as well as for the transportation of the mortal remains to India.

“Very unfortunate death of 12 Indian nationals. Several others also died of other nationalities, but we lost 12 of our nationals in the tragedy in Ras Laffan, where an explosion happened. Several other people have also been injured. I am told that some 66 people are injured across nationalities. We do not know exactly how many of them are Indian nationals, but all those people who are injured are safe,” the MEA spokesperson said.

“We are talking to the local authorities for the identification of the mortal remains, as well as for the transportation of the mortal remains to India. We are also in touch with the family members of those who died in this very unfortunate incident,” he added.
