Mumbai: A dispute over keeping the coach door open during heavy rain allegedly turned deadly inside a moving Churchgate–Nallasopara fast local late Monday (June 22) night, after 22-year-old Mayank Lohar was stabbed in the abdomen and later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP), the altercation broke out in a first-class compartment between Andheri and Borivali stations after Lohar reportedly asked a fellow passenger to close the coach door amid the downpour. During the argument, the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and attacked Lohar, before jumping off the train near Platform 6 at Borivali station and fleeing the scene.
Railway authorities activated emergency response measures upon receiving information about the incident. Lohar was first rushed to the medical room at Borivali station and later shifted to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where he died during treatment.
Police have registered a murder case and launched a manhunt for the accused. CCTV footage from the train and station, along with witness accounts, are being examined to trace him.
