Then there is the inflammation of the heart, also known as myocarditis. It can develop due to an infection and may cause chest pain, unsually fast or irregular heartbeat, breathlessness, fatigue or fainting. Severe myocarditis can also weaken the heart and in some cases lead to life-threatening complications. That’s not all, there are other rare possibilities as well. These include certain genetic electrical disorders, heart-muscle disorders, Kawasaki disease, some clotting conditions and severe cholesterol disorders. Unlike the typical adult heart attack, childhood cardiac emergencies are therefore often linked to an underlying heart or blood-vessel problem rather than years of cholesterol buildup.
