Before the 2026 edition, Egypt had never won a game in the history of the FIFA World Cup. This edition only marked the fourth time they qualified for the event. In their maiden appearance in 1934, they lost the Round of 16 clash to Uruguay 4-2. In the 1990 edition, they drew against the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland before losing to England. Meanwhile, they lost all three games in 2018 to Uruguay, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
