The case dates back to July 16, 2017, when the survivor, accompanied by her sister-in-law, had gone to collect forest produce near the India-Bangladesh border. According to the prosecution, the two women encountered the accused, who were then serving BSF personnel. The survivor testified that she was gang-raped by the duo, who later poured a corrosive substance on her face, resulting in severe burns and permanent loss of vision.
