While fans can enjoy the new Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland and Zendaya next month in India, they won’t be able to watch the superhero film on the big IMAX screen. It has been confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will not be released in IMAX in India. The Marvel and Sony co-production is arriving just two weeks after Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which is the first film to be shot entirely in IMAX. The classic saga, based on Homer’s Iliad, will be running exclusively on IMAX in most territories around the world. Co-incidentally, Holland and Zendaya are starring in the Nolan film as well.
Spider-Man Brand New Day won’t be released in IMAX in India
According to Sony Pictures India, the film is not releasing in IMAX. When replying to a fan’s comment on social media, the studio confirmed that it is skipping the IMAX screens. However, it will be “available in premium large-format (PLF) screens for an epic big-screen experience” instead. Additionally, the superhero film is releasing a day earlier than the rest of the world, on July 30, instead of July 31.
With a lot of big-name feature films releasing in 2026, from Supergirl to Dune: Part Three, the race for IMAX screens globally has been quite heated. Both Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are releasing on the same day, December 18, 2026, and it’s the sci-fi sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve that has secured the screens. The Odyssey opened advance booking for the Nolan film one year before its release and got promptly sold out.
Advance booking for Spider-Man Brand New Day in India
The studio is also giving fans an opportunity to grab their tickets earlier. In India, the advance ticket bookings for Spider-Man: Brand New Day will open up on June 17, 2026, a month before The Odyssey hits theatres around the world. Besides English, the film will be dubbed in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
