A 26-year-old Indian man has died after being stabbed in west London, prompting a murder investigation by the Metropolitan Police. The victim, identified as Gurbhej Singh from Mehdipur village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, was found with a knife injury after police were called to reports of a stabbing in Southall shortly after midnight on 10 June.

According to police, officers were dispatched to North Road, near its junction with Dormers Wells Lane, at about 00:40 BST following reports of an assault. Two men were injured in the incident. Singh was pronounced dead at the scene, while another man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The Metropolitan Police said seven men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. Six of those arrested have since been released without further action, while one man has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell said officers were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Police believe Singh was assaulted outside a shop at the junction of North Road and Dormers Wells Lane at around 00:30 local time. “We believe he was assaulted outside a shop at the junction of North Road and Dormers Well Lane at around 00:30,” DCI Foxwell said. “I would urge anyone with CCTV covering the area – or who was in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to police – to please come forward.”

Singh had moved to the UK in 2022 after completing his schooling in India. According to local reports, his family spent around Rs 24 lakh through an immigration agent to facilitate his move. His father, Mukhtiar Singh, is a farmer in Tarn Taran district.

Meanwhile, a fundraising campaign has been launched to support Singh’s family and help repatriate his body to India. Family members have also appealed to the Indian authorities for assistance in bringing his remains home.

The Metropolitan Police said the murder investigation remains ongoing.
