Newly appointed Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik officially assumed charge at Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar on Monday at 11:30 PM and outlined his key priorities for the state police force, including technology-driven policing, narcotics control, cyber crime prevention and effective grievance redressal.
Speaking after taking charge, Malik highlighted the success of community participation in Ahmedabad during his tenure as Police Commissioner.
He said more than 24,000 CCTV cameras were installed across Ahmedabad with public support. Of these, feeds from over 3,000 strategically important cameras are directly connected to police stations, while the police control room receives feeds from more than 7,000 CCTV cameras.
According to Malik, the extensive surveillance network has significantly improved crime detection and acted as a deterrent against offences such as theft, robbery and chain-snatching.
