Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Flex Fuel Launch Live: Maruti Suzuki has officially introduced the Wagon R Flex Fuel, making it India’s first passenger vehicle capable of operating on ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E100. The development marks a major milestone in the country’s push towards alternative fuels and reduced dependence on imported crude oil. Based on the popular Wagon R hatchback, the flex-fuel model has been engineered to run on high ethanol concentrations through modifications to the engine, fuel delivery system and other key components. The vehicle was unveiled in the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, and senior executives from Maruti Suzuki.

The Wagon R Flex Fuel is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series engine that has been adapted to handle varying ethanol blends while maintaining performance and drivability. Maruti Suzuki says the vehicle can seamlessly adjust to fuel mixtures from E20 to E100 using an advanced engine management system. The showcase comes as the government continues to promote ethanol as a cleaner and domestically produced fuel, with the aim of reducing emissions and improving energy security. Flex-fuel vehicles have already seen widespread adoption in markets such as Brazil, and India is now exploring a similar pathway.

While the Wagon R Flex Fuel has been introduced as a technology demonstration vehicle, it offers a glimpse into the future of biofuel-powered mobility in India. Questions around fuel availability, running costs, efficiency and large-scale adoption remain key areas of interest.
