United States President Donald Trump has laid out a stark two-track approach towards Iran, making it clear that Washington is pursuing diplomacy, but not ruling out force. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said that the US is going to make a “great deal” and if not, “we’ll just go back and finish it off militarily.”
However, Trump described the Iranian leadership as “very tough negotiators” and said the US was getting what it wants slowly. “We’re close to a very good deal… It takes a long time. I’m in no hurry,” he said.
“If you’re gonna be in a hurry, you’re not gonna make a good deal. And slowly but surely, we’re getting, I think, what we want, and if we don’t get what we want, we’re gonna end it a different way,” the US President told the channel.
The US President said that he would rather make a deal as it will “save a lot of lives” and “we can open the strait [of Hormuz] immediately upon signing.”
Trump also said that the US forces should not have been in Baghdad or in Iran. “You look at what happened with Iraq. We did so bad. It was such a foolish thing, what we did. We shouldn’t have been there in the first place, by the way. We shouldn’t have been in Iran, but Iran has the capability,” he said.

Trump also claimed the US has deliberately spared the Iranian military, calling them the moderates.
Earlier today, Trump shared an AI-generated image on his social media platform, Truth Social. In the image, Trump has shown himself in an ornate military uniform, pointing forward as fighter jets streak across the sky surrounding his head and US-flagged warships cut through rough seas. The image carried the caption: “YOU’RE GETTING DISCOMBOBULATED.”
Trump’s post came hours after US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the American military remains prepared to resume operations against Iran if diplomatic efforts fail. The Pentagon chief said President Donald Trump was “patient” and wants to make a “great deal” that ensures Iran does not get a nuclear weapon.
