Following the updated moon-lightning announcement, West Bengal made revisions to Bakra Eid’s holiday schedule. As per the updated holiday calendar, May 28, 2026, has been announced as the official public holiday for Eid al-Adha. The decision has been taken considering the revised Islamic observations across the nation.
The latest notification, issued by the state administrators, states that the previous holidays announced for May 26 and 27, 2026, have now been rolled back. All offices, institutions and establishments (falling under the government notification) shall remain fully operational on these two days. They will now observe Eid-Al-Adha on May 28, 2026.
As per the state government, the earlier order, which was issued in November 2025, had declared May 26 as a holiday for the day before Eid-ul-Zoha and May 27 for Bakrid celebrations. But due to modifications in the moon-sighting, the date has been revised under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, on account of Eid-ul-Zoha (Bakrid).
