NEET Needs Structural Reform, Not Another Round of Damage Control

India’s medical entrance examination system is no longer facing an isolated controversy. It is confronting a structural credibility crisis. The recent NEET-UG 2026 controversy, with the alleged paper leak and subsequent uncertainty, has once again thrown nearly 22 lakh students and their families into turmoil. For most households, this is not merely an examination. It represents years of disciplined study, parental sacrifice, coaching expenses, emotional strain, and the singular hope of entering one of the country’s most respected professions. When such a process repeatedly becomes uncertain, trust is inevitably damaged.
