According to officials from the Orange County Fire Authority, the leak involved methyl methacrylate (MMA), a highly flammable and volatile chemical commonly used in the production of plastics, acrylic materials, paints, coatings, and industrial products. Emergency crews expanded evacuation zones after one of the facility’s chemical storage tanks reportedly experienced a cooling system failure, increasing fears of fire, explosion, and toxic exposure.
