Some T-Mobile users reported service problems on Monday afternoon, including phones displaying “SOS” mode and losing connection to the carrier’s network. According to Downdetector, more than 140,000 issue reports have been filed. Most of the reported problems were related to a lack of mobile signal.
Reports of the issue also appeared on Reddit, where users from Utah, Missouri, Arizona, Illinois, Virginia, Georgia and California said they were experiencing problems with their devices.
Several users said their phones were showing “SOS” mode, indicating the devices were unable to connect to the T-Mobile network. While in “SOS” mode, users cannot make regular calls, but they should still be able to contact 911 in an emergency.
T-Mobile’s customer service account on X responded to several users reporting a variety of service issues. However, the company has not yet explained what is causing the disruption or how widespread it is.
What to Do If Your Phone Shows “SOS”?
If a phone displays “SOS” mode, emergency calls to 911 should still work by connecting through another available network or a satellite provider.
Users can also connect to Wi-Fi and enable Wi-Fi Calling through their phone’s settings to make regular calls while cellular service is unavailable.
If Wi-Fi is not available, some apps, including Google Maps, offer limited offline functionality. Payment apps also do not rely on cellular service and should continue to work.
Apple also recommends turning Airplane Mode on for at least 15 seconds and then turning it off to allow the device to reconnect to the network if service has been restored.
