The report says users will first need to add money online to UPI Lite, an on-device wallet designed for smaller transactions. Once the balance is loaded, payments can reportedly be made at NFC-enabled merchant terminals without requiring an internet connection or even entering a UPI PIN. Individual transactions are expected to be capped at Rs 2,000.
