“From an immigration law perspective, this is a shift from a status-based system to a time-bound immigration model. For Indian students, the concern is not merely the requirement of filing an extension application, but the uncertainty that accompanies additional government approvals, processing timelines and the risk of disruption to academic plans. We are already witnessing a growing trend of students and their families broadening their options beyond the United States and actively exploring destinations such as Germany, Ireland, Australia and Canada, where immigration pathways and post-study opportunities are often perceived as more predictable. Although the United States continues to remain one of the world’s leading education destinations, policy changes that reduce certainty and academic flexibility may gradually influence the decision-making process of prospective Indian students when choosing where to pursue higher education.”
