Prambanan Temple: The 1,100-Year-Old Hindu Marvel That Celebrates the Trimurti of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the historic Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, Indonesia today. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and was built in the 9th century. It also has temples dedicated to the Hindu deities Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. “Rising above the centre of the last of these concentric squares are three temples decorated with reliefs illustrating the epic of the Ramayana, dedicated to the three great Hindu divinities (Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma) and three temples dedicated to the animals who serve them,” states the website of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention.
