The IMA’s decision escalates a row that has been building since the night of July 6, when a critically ill pregnant woman was brought to the casualty department of Shastrinagar Hospital. According to the FIR lodged by Resident Medical Officer Dr Vaibhav Navade, doctors told the family that no ICU bed was available and advised shifting the patient to another hospital while treatment continued. Enraged over the lack of a bed, the patient’s relatives, including Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, allegedly abused, slapped and assaulted staff, issued threats and disrupted emergency services.
