On June 21, at least two workers died and more than 40 others were hospitalised after an ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing unit in Manjangaranai near Periyapalayam in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district. Several young women working at the factory were among those affected, and an investigation was ordered into possible safety lapses.
