Alongside the financial assistance plan, the Chief Minister also announced the expansion of subsidised food services, stating that fish-and-rice meals will be made available for Rs 5 at 400 dedicated canteens across West Bengal. The initiative is expected to widen the reach of low-cost meal schemes for economically weaker sections, daily wage earners, and urban poor, strengthening an already established model of welfare canteens that have played a significant role in Bengal’s social support system.
