The USA took the lead in just the seventh minute after Paraguay’s Damián Bobadilla scored an own goal. Folarin Balogun then scored twice in the first half to put the hosts firmly in control with a 3-0 lead at the break.
The second half was much quieter as the USA focused on protecting their advantage. Paraguay managed to pull one goal back in the 73rd minute through Maurício Magalhães Prado, but they never looked likely to complete a comeback.
Just when it seemed the match would finish 3-1, the USA struck again in stoppage time. Reyna scored with a fine right-footed finish to make it 4-1. Interestingly, the USA scored with the last kick of both halves and ended the night with a comfortable win.
