“The excise waiver applies to higher ethanol blends in the E22–E30 range, so the benefit will become visible only when these fuels are available at scale and priced separately at pumps. Since the central excise component on normal petrol is around Rs 11.90 per litre, there is meaningful pricing room if the benefit is passed through in future higher-blend fuels. However, consumers will judge savings by running cost, not just pump price, because ethanol blends can have a mileage impact of roughly 3%–10% depending on the vehicle. For a daily commuter, the real win will come when the lower fuel price comfortably offsets that mileage difference,” he said.
