Shukra Pradosh Vrat Katha
In ancient times, three friends lived in a city. One was the son of a king, the second the son of a Brahmin, and the third the son of a rich man. All three friends were married, but the rich man’s wife had not yet been married, leaving her at her parents’ home. One day, the three friends were talking. The Brahmin’s son praised women and said that a house without women was a den of ghosts. Hearing this, the rich man’s son resolved to bring his wife home immediately. He then went home and informed his parents that he was going to retrieve his wife. However, his parents informed him that the planet Venus was in decline, and that it was inauspicious to send daughters-in-law and daughters away from their homes during such a time.
But the rich man’s son disobeyed his parents and went to his in-laws’ house. Even his parents-in-law objected, but he forcibly took his wife away. Just as the couple left town, their bullock cart’s wheel broke, injuring them. But the rich man’s son didn’t stop. Then, on the way, they were ambushed by bandits, who stole all their money.
The husband and wife somehow reached home, but the rich man’s son was bitten by a snake. His father called doctors, who told him he would die within three days. When the Brahmin’s son learned of this, he urged the rich man to send him and his wife to his in-laws’ house. This had happened because he had sent his wife away from her home during the setting of Venus, so he would be the only one who would recover. The rich man returned his daughter-in-law and the letter. Upon arriving, the rich man and his son recovered.
