A 60-year-old pedestrian lost his life in a tragic road accident in the Farm area along Naggar Road near Manali in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district after a Delhi-registered Maruti Suzuki car allegedly hit him twice, dragged him, and ran over him.
According to the eyewitness, the car was being driven on the wrong side of the road when it struck a local resident, identified as Ram Krishan, who was walking along the roadside on Monday. Upon receiving information about the incident on Naggar Farm Road at Patlikuhl police station, a police team rushed to the spot.
The driver has been identified as 29-year-old Vikrant Vij, a resident of Karol Bagh, Delhi. According to reports, the accused dragged the victim for nearly 25 feet and then reversed the vehicle, running him over again, resulting in his death on the spot.
What Did Eyewitnesses Say?
Eyewitnesses further claimed that two men and one woman were inside the vehicle, loud music was playing, and they were allegedly consuming alcohol during the journey. The driver was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
Upon receiving information, the police arrested the accused and took the body into custody for post-mortem examination.
Kullu Superintendent of Police, Madan Lal Kaushal, stated that a case has been registered against the accused under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Moreover, statements of witnesses have been recorded under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Sub-Inspector Inder Singh, Additional In-charge, Patlikuhl police station, told PTI news agency that the case is under investigation, all aspects are being probed in detail, and further legal action will be taken based on the investigation.
The SP further informed that the accused has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized, while other occupants of the car are being questioned. He added that the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined.
