Why They Came to the United States
Gyasi and her son did not come to the United States without a reason. Her son was scheduled for an evaluation at Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio, where doctors were assessing whether he needed surgery for severe physical abnormalities affecting the fingers on both his hands. The family had made a similar trip two years earlier, but were told at the time that the boy was too young to undergo the procedure. Their tourist visas, which were issued legitimately, are valid through 2028.
