The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered an immediate halt to the manufacture and sale of compounded asafoetida, commonly known as hing, made by Everest Food Products and Laljee Godhoo and Company. The action follows laboratory findings that certain samples from the two companies failed to meet prescribed food safety and quality requirements. The regulator classified some of the products as sub-standard, non-conforming and misbranded.
