Raksha Bandhan is so much more than just a ritual, it is the celebration of the strong emotional bond shared between siblings. The word ‘Raksha’ means protection and ‘Bandhan’ means bond. This festival honours the lifelong connection of love, protection and respect. According to tradition, it is the practice of the sister tying a rakhi on her brother’s wrist symbolising the prayers of the sister for her brother’s success, happiness, health and well-being. The brother returns this good gesture by promising to always protect his sister and stand with her in all phases of life. However, the significance of this festival is so much more than this. It embraces all those relationships that are built on trust and respect, it could be between cousins, friends and people that feel like family.
