American professional pickleball player Adam Harvey clinched the men’s singles title at the Ho Chi Minh Open, a PPA Asia 500 event, on Sunday, August 9.
Harvey defeated Luc Pham 2-0 to win the title. Harvey’s performance after he made a runner-up finish in Singapore.
In the third place playoff, Hien Truong defeated Wang Hong Kit to win the bronze medal.
Earlier, Harvey defeated Truong in straight games in the semifinals, while Pham defeated Kit Wong. In the quarterfinals, he got better of Mikar Larenzo Fisher. He got the better of Zachary Grabovic in the Round of 16.
The victory capped a strong week for Harvey, who stayed composed through the knockout rounds and delivered when the pressure was at its highest. After reaching the final in Singapore, the American went one step further in Ho Chi Minh City, turning his recent run of form into a title.
Dominant performance
Harvey’s route to the championship was marked by a series of convincing performances. He opened his knockout campaign with a win over Grabovic in the Round of 16 before overcoming Fisher in the quarterfinals. That set up a semifinal meeting with Truong, where Harvey produced another straight-game victory to book his place in the championship match.
The final against Pham presented Harvey with one more test, but the American did not allow the occasion to become a stumbling block. He completed a 2-0 victory to secure the men’s singles crown and underline his growing presence on the PPA Asia circuit.
For Harvey, the result also carries added significance following his runner-up finish in Singapore. While that campaign ended without a title, his performance there provided momentum heading into the Ho Chi Minh Open. This time, Harvey was able to finish the job.
Pham, meanwhile, settled for the silver medal after making his way through the other half of the draw. He defeated Wang Hong Kit in the semifinals to earn his place in the final, but could not match Harvey’s level in the title clash.
Truong finished the tournament on the podium after defeating Wang Hong Kit in the third-place playoff to claim the bronze medal.
