Ben Stokes announced a shock retirement from international cricket in June 2026. The England all-rounder made the shocking announcement during the third Test of the home series against New Zealand. Stokes wasn’t included in the squad for the second Test in the aftermath of the nightclub incident that took place after the first Test. Joe Root led the team in his absence. Stokes made his return for the third Test as the captain, but retired during the game. Stokes, who is playing for Durham in domestic cricket, hasn’t hinted at making a return. However, Rob Key has kept the door ajar for Stokes to return for Ashes 2027.
