UP Police Working Like BJP Workers, Says Akhilesh Yadav, Terms Current Rule a 'BJPian Emergency'

up police working like bjp workers, says akhilesh yadav, terms current rule a 'bjpian emergency'

Launching a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the Uttar Pradesh Police of functioning as “BJP workers” rather than an independent law enforcement agency.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, the former CM asserted that public trust in the state’s policing system has completely been lost, citing sharp criticism from both the Supreme Court and the Allahabad High Court to back his claims.

Yadav said that the apex court recently questioned the investigative integrity of the UP Police in a Bulandshahr molestation case. The court while criticising UP police, said that the CBI might need to step in and remark that the force might as well be disbanded.

He further targeted the state government over its legal spending in a National Security Act case involving Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Medha Roopam, pointing out that over Rs 10 lakh is being spent on lawyers just to challenge an order imposing a Rs 5 lakh penalty.

Beyond law enforcement, Yadav raised serious concerns over civic governance and infrastructure failures, highlighting widespread waterlogging in Lucknow and Gorakhpur, punitive actions against citizens posting videos of civic issues, and the appearance of dozens of potholes on the newly constructed Rs 7,000 crore Gorakhpur Link Expressway.

Extending his critique to the broader governance model, Yadav asserted that social justice in India and Uttar Pradesh is currently passing through a “BJPian Emergency.” He alleged that the marginalized PDA communities which are Pichhda, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak are facing systematic hardships and political bias under the current administration drawing parallels to the 1975 Emergency by stating that corruption, inflation, and unemployment have reached their peak.

The SP chief declared that the PDA alongside Gen Z youth would wipe out the ruling party in upcoming elections.
