Egypt, Ethiopia Expel Each Other’s Diplomats In Fresh Diplomatic Clash Over Nile Dam

For more than a decade, Egypt and Ethiopia have been locked in a dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, or GERD, which Addis Ababa built on the Blue Nile. For Ethiopia, the dam is a major hydropower and development project and Addis Ababa maintains that it has a sovereign right to develop its water resources. An Ethiopian Foreign Ministry official reiterated that position last week, rejecting what he described as Egypt’s attempt to exercise a monopolistic approach to Nile waters.
