What was supposed to be a regular ride for an aspiring sociology student of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Delhi, turned into a fatal accident, ultimately claiming the 22-year-old’s life.
The student had taken an Uber bike taxi on Monday morning, September 28. However, during the ride, her bike taxi was hit by a DTC bus, which eventually claimed her life.
The deceased student, identified as Hrishita Lahon, was a Delhi University graduate, having completed her graduation from Maitreyi College. According to The Times of India, the young student had joined an internship around 20 days ago.
Reportedly, the accident took place near Ashram Flyover at around 10 AM, when Lahon was travelling from Lajpat Nagar towards Noida. According to The Times of India, police received no PCR call from the spot. Instead, they learnt about the incident at around 12:58 PM through a medico-legal case (MLC) received from a hospital.
As per the MLC, the student had sustained injuries and was later shifted to another hospital in Sarita Vihar due to her critical condition. However, at around 2:05 PM, Lahon died due to her injuries.
According to the bike driver, identified as Darab Singh, the bus had allegedly hit the motorcycle from behind. Singh also sustained injuries in the accident.
Police also tried to identify eyewitnesses at the accident spot but could not find anyone who had witnessed the crash. The bike is being examined, while a case has reportedly been registered at Sunlight Colony police station under Sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 125(A) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to The Times of India, the deceased’s body was sent to AIIMS for a postmortem examination. Following the examination, her body was handed over to her family. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
