A special court has granted bail to the two personal security officers (PSOs) of late singer Zubeen Garg in a disproportionate assets case registered by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell.
The two PSOs, Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora, were granted bail by the Special Judge’s Court in connection with allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
According to the court proceedings, the bail was granted after the investigating police allegedly failed to follow prescribed procedures during their arrest. The defence argued that mandatory rules and procedures had been violated.
However, the bail order does not mean that the two PSOs will be released from custody.
Baishya and Bora will continue to remain in jail in connection with the separate case relating to the death of Zubeen Garg. Both are also accused in that case and remain in custody in connection with the ongoing proceedings.
As a result, the relief granted in the disproportionate assets case does not immediately pave the way for their release from jail. The legal proceedings in both cases are continuing.
