A Russian military aircraft crashed in the Amur region on Tuesday, killing six people and setting off a large fire in a wooded area near the village of Krasnoyanovo. The aircraft was initially reported by Russian media as a Tu-154, with preliminary accounts saying seven people were aboard and one survived with injuries. Subsequent reports, however, indicated that the aircraft was actually a Tu-95MS strategic bomber, a far more consequential identification given the aircraft’s role in Russia’s long-range strike and nuclear forces.
