The Delhi High Court (HC) has refused to entertain a plea filed by National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) presidential candidate in the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections challenging the result. The Congress-backed student organisation has alleged that ABVP won the DUSU 2026 elections due to alleged electoral irregularities.
NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena had challenged the result declared on September 19 when ABVP candidate Yash Dabas was elected as DUSU president. In the results announced, Yash was declared as the President of DUSU after securing 24,576 votes, while Vijay Shankar Meena secured 22,523 votes.
According to Meena’s petition, principals, professors and administrative staff of certain colleges campaigned in favour of particular candidates despite being required to maintain institutional neutrality. He further alleged that certain election officers and university faculty members participated in campaigning for the RSS-backed student orgajisation, which he claimed was contrary to the neutrality requirements under the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and the DUSU Model Code of Conduct.
He also claimed that the overall voter turnout was 40.46 per cent among more than 1.51 lakh eligible voters, while some colleges allegedly recorded turnout of up to 80 per cent. He raised this issue in specific collges, namely Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhagini Nivedita College, Swami Shraddhanand College, Shivaji College and Motilal Nehru College (Morning).
The court directed the concerned authorities to examine the allegations raised by Meena and decide his representation within the stipulated time frame.
DUSU Election 2026 Results
The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) 2026 election results were announced in the late afternoon of September 19, 2026. ABVP emerged victorious on three out of four posts: President, Secretary and Joint Secretary posts.
ABVP’s Yash Dabas was elected as the President of DUSU after securing 24,576 votes. Similarly, ABVP’s Riya Chhawdi was elected as the Secretary after securing 21, 650 votes, and ABVP’s Lakshya Raj Singh was declared as the Joint Secretary with 16, 641 votes in his bank.
Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, who was earlier associated with NSUI, was declared Vice President with 30, 615 votes.
