A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Southern Ibaraki Prefecture near Tokyo early Tuesday, sending noticeable shaking across the greater Tokyo area and waking residents before sunrise, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The earthquake occurred at around 4:45 AM local time on September 29, with its epicenter in Southern Ibaraki, northeast of Tokyo, at a depth of roughly 50 kilometers. Xinhua reported the epicenter at 36.1 degrees north latitude and 139.9 degrees east longitude.
