A school in Maninagar has been issued a show-cause notice by the District Education Officer (DEO), Ahmedabad City, over allegations that its recognised educational campus was being used for commercial and other non-academic activities.
The notice follows a complaint received by the education department on September 24, 2026. Based on the complaint and preliminary information available with the department, the school has been asked to explain the activities being conducted on its premises.
The complaint alleges that, apart from regular academic activities, the school campus was being used for other purposes. It also mentions Garba practice being conducted on the premises at different times during the day and night.
The education department has sought details from the school management regarding the nature and duration of the activities. The management has also been asked to clarify whether permission was obtained from the competent authority for conducting such programmes on the school campus.
School Asked To Submit Permission Details
According to the notice, the school management must provide details of any commercial or non-academic activities that are currently being conducted or were previously held on the premises.
If permission was obtained from the education department, a local authority or any other competent body, the school has been directed to submit certified copies of the relevant documents.
The management has also been asked to provide details of Garba practice and other cultural programmes allegedly held on the campus, including the period during which they were conducted and the authority under whose permission they took place.
The DEO has sought an explanation from the school on why its recognised educational campus was allegedly being used for activities other than those connected with education.
The DEO has directed the school management to appear in person at noon on September 28, 2026, with the required documents and supporting evidence. The management will be required to respond to the allegations and provide an explanation before the education department.
The notice states that failure to appear or submit an explanation at the scheduled time will be treated as the management having nothing to say on the matter, following which further action may be taken under the applicable rules. The allegations are based on the complaint received by the education department and are subject to the school’s response and the outcome of the proceedings.
