In the new Netflix series Shaque: Trust No One, Soni Razdan plays a slightly protective mother. Over the years, the veteran actress has played on-screen mothers many times. In Raazi (2018), she even played mother to her daughter Alia Bhatt. In Zoom’s Spotlight Sessions podcast, Soni Razdan looked back at her career of more than four decades and how she’s managed to stand apart as an artist in her own right. Of course, many viewers know her as Mahesh Bhatt’s wife and mother to daughters Alia and Shaheen Bhatt. But the actress shared that she is not bothered by those labels.
Soni Razdan shares views on being called Alia Bhatt’s mother or Mahesh Bhatt’s wife
Speaking with Zoom, Soni Razdan shared that she enjoys playing all shades of characters as an actor. For her new Netflix series Shaque, she didn’t much relate to the character she was playing in the Parineeti Chopra starrer. However, she relished playing a character like that.
When asked about her identity as an actor and how she’s also known as a famous wife and mother, Soni stated, “I don’t know if it bothered me. I found it amusing. Yes, I am Mahesh Bhatt’s wife, and I’m also an actor. And I do act, and I have done a lot. But you know what? I can’t blame people. I wasn’t really totally out there as an actor. If I had done that, one or two films that everybody would have seen, then I don’t think anybody would have said these things.”
“The world is actually quite a fair place if you look at it that way. You can’t say, oh no, this is their fault; it’s not. It is the way it is. It is not any different. But that doesn’t mean I should not have my place in the scheme of things. I’ve worked very hard for that place,” she went on to add. She has collaborated numerous times with her filmmaker husband on projects such as Saaransh, Sadak, Gumrah among others. On the other hand, she and Alia have only worked once in Raazi.
