A new test being used by the NHS is being claimed to dramatically reduce the time that patients need to wait to find out the type and stage of brain tumour they have. According to the possibilities of this test, doctors will be able to get a diagnosis in around 2 hours in some cases. This technology is developed by the researchers at the University of Nottingham and the clinicians at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. It uses rapid genetic sequencing to analyse the tumour tissue during surgery. Usually, according to traditional methods, patients had to wait several weeks for detailed molecular testing, with some of the results taking more than 6-8 weeks to arrive.
