Veteran Bengali actress Mithu Mukherjee, who was one of the most recognisable faces of Bengali cinema during the 1970s and 1980s, has died at the age of 71. As per reports, the actress passed away at a private hospital in Mumbai on Sunday night after battling cancer for nearly a year. Mukherjee, who had largely stayed away from the public eye in the later years of her life, was a prominent star of her generation. Known for her charismatic screen presence, she worked with several leading actors of Bengali cinema, including Uttam Kumar, Soumitra Chattopadhyay and Ranjit Mullick.
