The numbers tell quite a startling story. The ABVP won the President post by a margin of 2,053 votes while Left contesting separately got 5,377 votes. Had the NSUI fought with the Left, the win margin would have been trumped. Similarly, with the Secretary post, where the ABVP won by a margin of 6,781 votes while the Left got 8,734 votes. And most resoundingly, in the Joint Secretary post, where a united Opposition would have easily trumped the ABVP’s 837 vote margin, had the NSUI contested alongside the Samajwadi Party wing and the Left- which secured 5,837 votes alone.
