How To: Style Plum
For the next few weeks before you put your wardrobe through its winter swap, this is your new neutral. You can’t help but deny that beige feels boring and black, save for the silhouettes you choose it in, feels predictable in front of this moody hue. Sitting somewhere between deep purple, burgundy and wine, the perfect fabric to splash some plum across is ideally, tactile. Think velvet, satin sueded, (faux!) leather and the likes. Nothing is going to look or feel yummier than say, a full-length silk slip dress in plum, accented with delicate gold jewellery. If your aesthetic is more chunky, a velvet plum blazer layered over a simple black camisole, matching some well-tailored trousers – also in plum is going to almost make you feel like a whole new person. For the day time, think of pairing your plum pieces with shades like cream, caramel or oat and keep the fit leaning towards the more relaxed end to prevent your OOTD from feeling a little too 80s rogue. We’d always pick gold over silver for plum regardless of the time you’re stepping out. But if you’re a silver girl, a monochrome plum look punctuated with the cool metal too, could work rather well.
