New Delhi: A 31-year-old Delhi man who went missing after leaving home for a meeting in Gurugram has been found murdered, with his body recovered from a drain. Delhi Police have arrested his former office colleague and her associate in connection with the case.
The deceased, identified as Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, was a resident of Sarita Vihar. He went missing on September 6 after leaving a restaurant in Lajpat Nagar, telling his family that he had a meeting in Gurugram.
According to Delhi Police, Yuvraj had gone shopping with his sister at Central Market in Lajpat Nagar that day. The two later visited Golden Dragon Restaurant in Lajpat Nagar-II.
At around 4 pm, Yuvraj left the restaurant, saying he would attend a meeting in Gurugram and return home by around 10 pm. However, he did not come back, and his mobile phone was later found switched off.
A missing-person FIR was registered at Lajpat Nagar Police Station on September 11.
Ex-Colleague, Associate Traced To Uttarakhand
During the investigation, police analysed call detail records (CDRs), internet protocol detail records (IPDRs), CCTV footage and other technical evidence.
Investigators found that Yuvraj had last spoken to his former office colleague, Anya Vats. He had also reportedly told his family that he was going to Gurugram to meet her.
Both Yuvraj and Vats were subsequently found to have switched off their phones.
Police later detected a new mobile number allegedly being used by Vats. Technical surveillance indicated her presence in Uttarakhand, following which a Delhi Police team was sent to the state.
Vats and her associate, Sanyam Sachdeva, were traced and apprehended by the team.
Accused Allegedly Disclose Murder, Body Disposal
According to police, during questioning, both accused allegedly disclosed their involvement in Yuvraj’s murder and said they had disposed of his body in a drain near their house in Gurugram.
A breakthrough came when investigators learnt that Badshahpur Police Station in Gurugram had recovered an unidentified body from a drain on September 10.
Photographs of the body were shown to Yuvraj’s family, who identified him. Police said the identification was also supported by the clothes and physical description visible in the photographs.
Delhi Police said the investigation and material collected so far indicate the alleged involvement of Vats and Sachdeva in the murder and disposal of the body.
Five-Day Police Custody Granted
Both accused have been arrested and produced before the concerned court, which has granted five days of police custody.
Police are now working to establish the complete sequence of events, identify the roles of the two accused and collect further technical and forensic evidence.
Investigators are also examining relevant locations as part of the ongoing probe.
